Septoplasty and rhinoplasty should not be treated as interchangeable names when you are deciding what you want addressed. In researching Özgür Erdem, start by saying whether your concern is nasal breathing, visible shape or both. Then ask what the assessment shows and what the proposed procedure is intended to change.

Confirm the relevant practice
This article concerns the Antalya ENT and head-and-neck surgeon Özgür Erdem. His current official information presents an ENT practice in Antalya. His practice presents both rhinoplasty and functional nasal care. He is a different person from the similarly named İzmir plastic surgeon. The independent Antalya profile provides the identity context.
Write a goal without naming an operation
Try completing two sentences: “I would like my nose to look…” and “My breathing bothers me when…”. You can leave either blank. Wanting improved breathing does not oblige you to request a cosmetic change, and wanting a different profile does not make a breathing symptom irrelevant.
Ask the clinician to explain the anatomical finding before discussing the procedure name. In general, septoplasty concerns the septum, while septorhinoplasty can combine septal work with changes to the external framework. The procedure comparison explains that distinction in more detail.
Use a change-and-preserve list
Make two columns on paper. In the first, name the change you are considering. In the second, name what you want preserved. A breathing-focused patient might write: “Address the obstruction; I am not requesting a different profile.” A patient seeking both might write: “Discuss the bridge and breathing; explain which part of the plan addresses each.”
These are example preferences, not promises that a surgeon can deliver them exactly. Ask about limits, alternatives and whether the concerns are linked in your case. If you do not understand a technical term in the proposed plan, request an everyday-language explanation before agreeing to it.
What should be clarified after the online stage?
Erdem’s published pathway distinguishes a preliminary discussion from the physical examination that finalises the plan. Confirm what is provisional for you. Ask whether the proposed operation could change after examination and how you would have time to consider that change.
The useful document is a summary that connects the concern, the finding and the proposed work. A package title alone does not do that. Neither does a message that says “rhinoplasty” without explaining whether any functional treatment is included.
Keep the decision as narrow as you need
If your question concerns breathing, ask for the relevant assessment without assuming you should add a cosmetic procedure. If you are considering appearance changes, ask which are feasible while protecting the functions that matter to you. Our functional nasal surgery article is useful further reading.
