Dr Cem Altındağ
Cem Altındağ is an Istanbul ENT and head-and-neck surgeon listed on Quartz’s current medical roster. His record also includes a Rhinoplasty Society of Europe entry and historical work in London. The institution listing, society membership and older publication answer different questions; none establishes a current UK hospital appointment or an individual surgical result.

Education and professional background
- 1989 · 1994
Medical degree and ENT specialisation
The publisher Doğan Kitap records his graduation from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1989 and completion of ENT and head-and-neck specialist training at Beyoğlu Hospital in 1994. This biographical record complements, rather than replaces, the current institutional evidence for his specialty.

A historical London record
His 2003 review in Turkish Archives of Otolaryngology describes experience in London in 2001–2002. The publisher biography also records a visiting specialist period. This supports a historical UK connection; it should not be shortened to “current NHS consultant” or used to imply continuing UK registration.

What does the practice focus on?
Identify the practice and operating setting
Quartz’s doctor and working-hours pages list Altındağ in ENT; his own site presents a rhinoplasty practice. These sources identify a professional setting without promising where your operation would take place. Ask which organisation provides the consultation, which hospital is named for surgery and who takes responsibility for aftercare.

What the European society entry establishes
The Rhinoplasty Society of Europe has an approved member entry for Cem Altindag, with Istanbul practice details. This offers a separate professional reference point. It is not a patient-rating system, a board-certification record or a comparison of surgeons. Ask about experience with anatomy and previous operations comparable to yours rather than interpreting membership as a guarantee.

The older paper has a different clinical subject
The 2003 article concerns prion transmission and surgical instruments in adenotonsillar surgery. It helps date the author’s London experience, but it is not a rhinoplasty outcome study. It cannot supply a nasal-surgery success rate or evidence of present infection-control performance. Current operating arrangements need their own direct explanation.

Understanding nasal surgery
Different goals. One carefully considered plan.
A useful consultation separates what you would like to change from what an examination can establish. The guide below explains the vocabulary used in nasal surgery. It is general education, not a description of this doctor’s personal technique or a recommendation for your case.
Form
What would you like to change about your nose within the proportions of your face?
Breathing
Which symptoms need an internal examination and discussion of possible causes?
History
How do previous treatment, health and expectations inform the discussion?
Conceptual planning diagram, not a diagnostic image or a prediction of surgical results.

Rhinoplasty: the external shape
Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. Open and closed describe access through different incision patterns; these words alone do not tell you what structural work is planned. Ask your surgeon to explain the proposed changes, their limitations and why that access suits your anatomy.

Septoplasty: the internal partition
The septum divides the two nasal passages. A deviation can contribute to obstruction, but an off-centre septum does not always cause symptoms. Assessment considers other contributors, including the turbinates and nasal valves. Septoplasty addresses the septum; a combined septorhinoplasty also addresses the external nose.

Revision: understand the earlier operation
If you have already had surgery, make that clear at the outset and bring any available operative records. A useful consultation should distinguish the concern you see today from the correction being proposed. Ask what can realistically change, what may remain and whether further surgery is appropriate at all.
ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation; editorial consultation prompts
Arrive with a history, leave with clear questions.
Prepare your medical conditions, allergies, current medicines and supplements, smoking or alcohol history and previous procedures. Describe both appearance and breathing concerns. The consultation should include examination, available options and an explanation of risks. Do not change prescribed medicines yourself; ask the treating team for individual instructions.

Recovery is a sequence, not a reveal.
This visual is an orientation to follow-up, not a fixed timetable. The treating surgeon determines your care and review schedule.
- 01
Initial care
Splints or dressings may protect the nose. Obtain written instructions on care, medicines and the next review.
- 02
Early review
Ask who removes dressings or sutures, when you can resume activities and whom to contact with concerns.
- 03
Ongoing healing
Swelling changes over time; refinement can take up to a year. An early photograph is not the final assessment.
- 04
Continued follow-up
Confirm how reviews continue after you return home and how persistent concerns will be assessed.
ASPS · Rhinoplasty recovery
Discuss the trade-offs before deciding.
Possible risks include breathing difficulty, infection, altered sensation, scarring, septal perforation, dissatisfaction with appearance and further surgery. Anaesthesia has its own risks. Ask which are relevant to your health and proposed operation, how complications would be managed and what alternatives are available.

Reviews, fees & online identity
Keep clinic and surgeon reviews distinct
When reading Altındağ accounts on Reddit, RealSelf or other review sites, check whether the subject is the surgeon, a hospital or a travel organiser. A comment about transfers or a room answers a different question from a dated description of nasal function and healing. This profile assigns no platform score and does not verify individual patient stories.

Request a quotation from the responsible provider
The roster and society entry do not establish your surgical price. Ask whose name appears on the quotation, whether hospital and anaesthesia charges are included, and how revision work or additional cartilage would be priced. Separate accommodation and transport from the medical scope so that lower travel costs are not mistaken for equivalent clinical services.

Check the organisation behind an online reply
The current Quartz listing and the doctor’s own practice site provide two identities to reconcile when someone contacts you online. Establish whether the person represents the practice, the medical centre or an independent agency. A social profile or private group using the name does not by itself establish authority to quote, book or give medical advice.
