Independent doctor profile

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Koçak

İlker Koçak is an ENT surgeon in Ataköy, Istanbul, with official English information on functional rhinoplasty, revision surgery and piezo bone work. His indexed osteotomy research gives prospective patients a concrete subject to discuss: what a tool may change about one stage of surgery, and what it cannot tell them about the complete result.

Education and professional background

  1. Medical and specialist training

    Medical and specialist training

His English biography records graduation from Cerrahpaşa in 2008 and completion of ENT and head-and-neck residency at Bezmialem Vakıf University Hospital in 2013.

  2. Hospital experience and academic title

    Hospital experience and academic title

The biography dates his Koç University Hospital work to 2014–2019 and associate professorship to 2018. These are historical career details, not confirmation of a present hospital appointment.

02

What does the practice focus on?

01

Piezo is one part of the operation

Koçak’s practice explains piezo-assisted bone cutting. Ask whether your proposed change requires an osteotomy at all, where the cuts would be made and how the bone plan relates to cartilage support and breathing. Do not use the instrument label as shorthand for the whole operation or a promise about bruising, pain or final symmetry.

02

Revision planning includes the donor site

His revision page discusses the possible use of nasal, ear or rib cartilage. Ask what makes a graft necessary, whether an alternative source is available and what additional consent and recovery apply to the donor area. The timing and scope of a revision should follow your examination, rather than a timetable borrowed from another patient.

Clinical interests & published evidence

Evidence reviewed:

A defined study of early recovery

Koçak, Doğan and Gökler’s 2017 randomised study compared piezo and conventional osteotomy in 49 patients, assessing early swelling, bruising, pain and mucosal integrity. This supports a specific research interest; it does not establish an individual long-term result. Ask how the study relates to your planned operation and which uncertainties remain outside its scope.

Check the current international pathway

The official English site contains a travel and follow-up outline for overseas patients, published in 2020. That is an English-access signal relevant to UK readers, not proof that the old timetable still applies. British appointments and German- or French-language clinical support were not established. Confirm consent language, hospital, minimum stay and arrangements after returning home in writing.

Understanding nasal surgery

Different goals. One carefully considered plan.

A useful consultation separates what you would like to change from what an examination can establish. The guide below explains the vocabulary used in nasal surgery. It is general education, not a description of this doctor’s personal technique or a recommendation for your case.

Three questions for an individual assessment
01

Form

What would you like to change about your nose within the proportions of your face?

02

Breathing

Which symptoms need an internal examination and discussion of possible causes?

03

History

How do previous treatment, health and expectations inform the discussion?

Conceptual planning diagram, not a diagnostic image or a prediction of surgical results.

Read the procedure, recovery and risk guide
01

Rhinoplasty: the external shape

Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. Open and closed describe access through different incision patterns; these words alone do not tell you what structural work is planned. Ask your surgeon to explain the proposed changes, their limitations and why that access suits your anatomy.

NHS · Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)

02

Septoplasty: the internal partition

The septum divides the two nasal passages. A deviation can contribute to obstruction, but an off-centre septum does not always cause symptoms. Assessment considers other contributors, including the turbinates and nasal valves. Septoplasty addresses the septum; a combined septorhinoplasty also addresses the external nose.

03

Revision: understand the earlier operation

If you have already had surgery, make that clear at the outset and bring any available operative records. A useful consultation should distinguish the concern you see today from the correction being proposed. Ask what can realistically change, what may remain and whether further surgery is appropriate at all.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation; editorial consultation prompts

Arrive with a history, leave with clear questions.

Prepare your medical conditions, allergies, current medicines and supplements, smoking or alcohol history and previous procedures. Describe both appearance and breathing concerns. The consultation should include examination, available options and an explanation of risks. Do not change prescribed medicines yourself; ask the treating team for individual instructions.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation

Recovery is a sequence, not a reveal.

This visual is an orientation to follow-up, not a fixed timetable. The treating surgeon determines your care and review schedule.

  1. 01

    Initial care

Splints or dressings may protect the nose. Obtain written instructions on care, medicines and the next review.

  2. 02

    Early review

Ask who removes dressings or sutures, when you can resume activities and whom to contact with concerns.

  3. 03

    Ongoing healing

Swelling changes over time; refinement can take up to a year. An early photograph is not the final assessment.

  4. 04

    Continued follow-up

Confirm how reviews continue after you return home and how persistent concerns will be assessed.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty recovery

Discuss the trade-offs before deciding.

Possible risks include breathing difficulty, infection, altered sensation, scarring, septal perforation, dissatisfaction with appearance and further surgery. Anaesthesia has its own risks. Ask which are relevant to your health and proposed operation, how complications would be managed and what alternatives are available.

Reviews, fees & online identity

Read beyond the technique label

For İlker Koçak reviews on Reddit or RealSelf, “piezo” alone does not tell you whether the account concerns a primary case, a crooked nose or a revision. Look for the full procedure and follow-up duration, including later updates. A “botched” query does not establish a diagnosis or fault; neither praise nor criticism supplies an audited result rate.

Separate clinical costs from travel

No current personalised Koçak rhinoplasty price is verified here. Request a written quotation with surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, any revision graft work and follow-up, separate from hotel or transfers. Ask what changes if examination alters the plan or you cannot travel on the expected day. A historical package or another patient’s bill is not your treatment agreement.

Confirm the full name and communication role

Use İlker Koçak’s full name when checking an Instagram account or WhatsApp contact; a surname or reused photograph is not sufficient. No patient WhatsApp group, administrator or invitation is verified here. Check whether you are speaking with a coordinator or clinician and how information is handled before sending documents.
