Independent doctor profile
Revision planning when the nasal history is complex
Memorial currently lists M. Melih Şahin in its Ankara ENT service and explicitly includes primary and revision rhinoplasty. His hospital article distinguishes first surgery from corrective surgery, while his wider research includes smell and endonasal skull-base work. This independent profile keeps those different clinical settings separate and does not arrange his care.

Previous surgery, smell and the revision question
Give revision surgery its own problem list
The hospital’s article under his fuller name, Muammer Melih Şahin, discusses primary and revision rhinoplasty separately. Before a revision consultation, collect the previous operation report, timing, current symptoms and specific appearance concerns. Ask which changes are still healing, which need investigation and whether observation or a staged approach is preferable.
Explain smell changes separately from shape
Şahin co-authored a study testing olfaction in 28 smoking-cessation volunteers before cessation and 45 days later. That research interval is not a rhinoplasty recovery rule, and the study does not establish that reshaping restores smell. If smell has changed, bring the timeline, smoking history and earlier nasal treatments; ask which examination is needed before attributing it to external shape.

Gazi training and current Memorial listing
The hospital records medical and ENT training at Gazi and a 2014 neurotology/lateral skull-base fellowship in Piacenza, Italy. It lists Memorial Ankara from 2024. Confirm the facility responsible for your case rather than assuming every historical academic appointment describes the present care arrangement.

English hospital information and IFOS rhinology participation
IFOS Istanbul 2026 lists Melih Şahin in its Rhinology Group, and Memorial provides a named English profile. This helps distinguish him from similarly named doctors in international searches. These signals support discovery, not a claim of UK demand, overseas practice or guaranteed consultation in German or French.

Separate nasal revision from tumour surgery
Evidence reviewed:
Cosmetic revision and skull-base surgery need different pathways
The endonasal case series concerns craniopharyngioma surgery with intraoperative imaging. It is a different indication from rhinoplasty and cannot supply a cosmetic success rate. For a patient with previous sinus or skull-base surgery, the useful question is how operative reports and any multidisciplinary advice change the safety and scope of a nasal plan.

Use the hospital explanation to test your written plan
A general hospital article cannot determine your graft requirements, operation duration or travel clearance. Ask Şahin to explain the intended change, alternatives, graft sources if needed, breathing assessment and reasons to postpone. Request an individualized review schedule and a route for assessment after returning home.

Define the revision scope before a quotation
Where is the doctor based?
Ankara, Turkey
What is the doctor’s specialty?
ENT · Primary and revision rhinoplasty, rhinology and skull-base surgery
Which earlier records should I prepare before a revision discussion?
Ask Memorial which operative reports, graft details and existing scans the team wants to review. Describe what concerns appearance, breathing and smell, with dates. A previous sinus or skull-base procedure may raise different planning questions from cosmetic revision; ask whether another specialty should review the case before an operation is quoted.
Can I book this doctor through Rhinoplasty Team Turkey?
No. This is an independent information page. Rhinoplasty Team Turkey does not arrange consultations or treatment with this doctor.

Match the full name, hospital and indication
Check the full name and the clinical indication
Match Muammer Melih Şahin, Memorial Ankara and the actual operation before attributing an online result. A revision story, a smell assessment and an endonasal tumour procedure are not interchangeable. The search label “botched” cannot determine the cause of a problem or the scope of a further operation; bring the previous records and examination findings into that discussion.

An enquiry form is not a published surgical fee
Memorial’s English profile invites a price enquiry but does not establish a current personal rhinoplasty fee. Request a dated, case-specific hospital quotation and distinguish primary surgery, revision and any separate sinus work. Confirm the surgeon, anaesthesia, tests, grafts, stay, medicines and follow-up rather than importing an amount from a forum.

Understanding nasal surgery
Different goals. One carefully considered plan.
A useful consultation separates what you would like to change from what an examination can establish. The guide below explains the vocabulary used in nasal surgery. It is general education, not a description of this doctor’s personal technique or a recommendation for your case.
Form
What would you like to change about your nose within the proportions of your face?
Breathing
Which symptoms need an internal examination and discussion of possible causes?
History
How do previous treatment, health and expectations inform the discussion?
Conceptual planning diagram, not a diagnostic image or a prediction of surgical results.

Rhinoplasty: the external shape
Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. Open and closed describe access through different incision patterns; these words alone do not tell you what structural work is planned. Ask your surgeon to explain the proposed changes, their limitations and why that access suits your anatomy.
NHS · Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
Septoplasty: the internal partition
The septum divides the two nasal passages. A deviation can contribute to obstruction, but an off-centre septum does not always cause symptoms. Assessment considers other contributors, including the turbinates and nasal valves. Septoplasty addresses the septum; a combined septorhinoplasty also addresses the external nose.

Revision: understand the earlier operation
If you have already had surgery, make that clear at the outset and bring any available operative records. A useful consultation should distinguish the concern you see today from the correction being proposed. Ask what can realistically change, what may remain and whether further surgery is appropriate at all.
ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation; editorial consultation prompts
Arrive with a history, leave with clear questions.
Prepare your medical conditions, allergies, current medicines and supplements, smoking or alcohol history and previous procedures. Describe both appearance and breathing concerns. The consultation should include examination, available options and an explanation of risks. Do not change prescribed medicines yourself; ask the treating team for individual instructions.

Recovery is a sequence, not a reveal.
This visual is an orientation to follow-up, not a fixed timetable. The treating surgeon determines your care and review schedule.
- 01
Initial care
Splints or dressings may protect the nose. Obtain written instructions on care, medicines and the next review.
- 02
Early review
Ask who removes dressings or sutures, when you can resume activities and whom to contact with concerns.
- 03
Ongoing healing
Swelling changes over time; refinement can take up to a year. An early photograph is not the final assessment.
- 04
Continued follow-up
Confirm how reviews continue after you return home and how persistent concerns will be assessed.

Discuss the trade-offs before deciding.
Possible risks include breathing difficulty, infection, altered sensation, scarring, septal perforation, dissatisfaction with appearance and further surgery. Anaesthesia has its own risks. Ask which are relevant to your health and proposed operation, how complications would be managed and what alternatives are available.
