Education and professional background

  1. Current university role

    Professor in Hacettepe’s ENT department

The current Hacettepe department roster and individual hospital profile identify Özer as an ENT professor. His biography records Hacettepe ENT specialist training completed in 2007, a 2007–2008 clinical fellowship in rhinology and a return to Hacettepe’s academic staff in 2011. The institutional record confirms role and chronology, not procedure volume or outcome.

  2. International context

Pittsburgh training and IFOS rhinology service

The hospital profile records skull-base surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh and English as a foreign language. IFOS Istanbul 2026 lists Özer as secretary of the Rhinology Group. These are verifiable international signals for English-language research, not a claim of UK practice, higher popularity or guaranteed language support.

02

What does the practice focus on?

01

Connect rhinoplasty to nose-and-sinus assessment

Özer’s official interests combine rhinoplasty with nasal and sinus disease, allergic rhinitis and endoscopic surgery. Ask whether obstruction arises from septum, valve, turbinates, inflammation or sinus disease, and which findings a cosmetic change would not treat. A combined plan should specify goals and follow-up measures for both form and function.

02

Make previous septal injury a separate workstream

His septal-perforation paper describes reconstruction of medium and large defects with an interposition graft. It supports detailed questions about defect cause, dimensions and donor tissue but does not predict an individual result. If there was prior septoplasty or rhinoplasty, take operative notes and ask how scarring changes options and risk.

Current Hacettepe identity with a defined rhinology pathway

Hacettepe’s current roster names Özer as professor; his individual profile documents ENT training, a clinical rhinology fellowship, nose-and-sinus interests and rhinoplasty. The IFOS committee adds a current secretary role in its Rhinology Group. Together these sources establish academic and professional context, not a personal caseload, ranking or treatment outcome.

Septal-perforation evidence is relevant to revision planning, within limits

Özer is first author of the 2022 sandwich-graft study. It reports defined surgical follow-up for septal-perforation repair and stratifies findings by defect size and cause. Those data belong to that cohort and technique, not to a future patient or all rhinoplasties. Ask how prior cartilage removal, mucosal injury and scarring change reconstructive choices.

Understanding nasal surgery

Different goals. One carefully considered plan.

A useful consultation separates what you would like to change from what an examination can establish. The guide below explains the vocabulary used in nasal surgery. It is general education, not a description of this doctor’s personal technique or a recommendation for your case.

Three questions for an individual assessment
01

Form

What would you like to change about your nose within the proportions of your face?

02

Breathing

Which symptoms need an internal examination and discussion of possible causes?

03

History

How do previous treatment, health and expectations inform the discussion?

Conceptual planning diagram, not a diagnostic image or a prediction of surgical results.

01

Rhinoplasty: the external shape

Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. Open and closed describe access through different incision patterns; these words alone do not tell you what structural work is planned. Ask your surgeon to explain the proposed changes, their limitations and why that access suits your anatomy.

NHS · Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)

02

Septoplasty: the internal partition

The septum divides the two nasal passages. A deviation can contribute to obstruction, but an off-centre septum does not always cause symptoms. Assessment considers other contributors, including the turbinates and nasal valves. Septoplasty addresses the septum; a combined septorhinoplasty also addresses the external nose.

03

Revision: understand the earlier operation

If you have already had surgery, make that clear at the outset and bring any available operative records. A useful consultation should distinguish the concern you see today from the correction being proposed. Ask what can realistically change, what may remain and whether further surgery is appropriate at all.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation; editorial consultation prompts

Arrive with a history, leave with clear questions.

Prepare your medical conditions, allergies, current medicines and supplements, smoking or alcohol history and previous procedures. Describe both appearance and breathing concerns. The consultation should include examination, available options and an explanation of risks. Do not change prescribed medicines yourself; ask the treating team for individual instructions.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation

Recovery is a sequence, not a reveal.

This visual is an orientation to follow-up, not a fixed timetable. The treating surgeon determines your care and review schedule.

  1. 01

    Initial care

Splints or dressings may protect the nose. Obtain written instructions on care, medicines and the next review.

  2. 02

    Early review

Ask who removes dressings or sutures, when you can resume activities and whom to contact with concerns.

  3. 03

    Ongoing healing

Swelling changes over time; refinement can take up to a year. An early photograph is not the final assessment.

  4. 04

    Continued follow-up

Confirm how reviews continue after you return home and how persistent concerns will be assessed.

ASPS · Rhinoplasty recovery

Discuss the trade-offs before deciding.

Possible risks include breathing difficulty, infection, altered sensation, scarring, septal perforation, dissatisfaction with appearance and further surgery. Anaesthesia has its own risks. Ask which are relevant to your health and proposed operation, how complications would be managed and what alternatives are available.

Reviews, fees & online identity

Match reviews to Serdar Özer, Hacettepe and the same procedure

Search results can mix the doctor with namesakes. For Reddit or RealSelf accounts, verify Serdar Özer, the Hacettepe setting, procedure and date. A sinus or septal-perforation story is not evidence for cosmetic rhinoplasty, and “botched” is not a clinical conclusion. Look for operative facts and follow-up, not popularity claims.

No current patient-specific rhinoplasty price for Özer is verified here. Ask Hacettepe or the confirmed treating facility for a dated written quotation and rules for university appointments, surgery, anaesthesia, grafts, medicines and follow-up.
