Independent doctor profile
Prof. Dr. Rauf Tahamiler
Rauf Tahamiler is an Istanbul ENT surgeon listed at Medicana Ataşehir, with rhinoplasty and nasal obstruction among his clinical interests. His hospital profile specifically names ultrasonic rhinoplasty. This independent guide separates that current service description from older research on nasal bone work and helps you prepare questions about appearance, breathing and follow-up.

Education and professional background
- Medical and ENT training
Medical and ENT training
Medicana records graduation from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and ENT specialist training at Cerrahpaşa in 1996. These hospital-published credentials establish the reported training pathway, rather than a comparison with other surgeons.

Hospital and academic experience
The same biography lists earlier work at Cerrahpaşa, several private hospitals and a professorship at Hasan Kalyoncu University during 2016–2021. Its current location is Medicana Ataşehir. Historical appointments should not be mistaken for additional present-day consultation locations.

What does the practice focus on?
Ask what ultrasonic surgery would change
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is explicitly listed in his hospital profile. In consultation, ask which bone changes are proposed and how those relate to cartilage support and the septum. A device name alone does not explain the whole operation, the incision approach, your expected recovery or the need for grafts. Request the reasoning for your anatomy rather than a technology label.
Separate obstruction from a shape concern
His listed interests also include nasal obstruction and sinusitis. Describe when breathing feels restricted, any previous nasal treatment and what change in shape you want. Ask whether the explanation is structural, inflammatory or still uncertain, and whether separate assessment is needed. A plan should make clear what surgery aims to change and which symptoms it may not address.

Clinical interests & published evidence
Evidence reviewed:
A specific study of nasal bone instruments
A 2008 paper by Ferhat Erişir and Rauf Tahamiler compared lateral osteotomy instruments in 36 rhinoplasty patients, assessing early swelling and bruising. This is historical research on micro-osteotomes, not a study of his currently listed ultrasonic service. It does not establish a modern individual complication rate or guarantee long-term appearance or breathing results.

English, German and French hospital information
Medicana publishes his doctor profile in English, German and French and displays a UK contact number on its international site. These are verified access and language signals at hospital level. They do not establish his fluency, UK practice registration or popularity. Confirm who translates the consultation and consent, and how clinical follow-up works after returning home.

Understanding nasal surgery
Different goals. One carefully considered plan.
A useful consultation separates what you would like to change from what an examination can establish. The guide below explains the vocabulary used in nasal surgery. It is general education, not a description of this doctor’s personal technique or a recommendation for your case.
Form
What would you like to change about your nose within the proportions of your face?
Breathing
Which symptoms need an internal examination and discussion of possible causes?
History
How do previous treatment, health and expectations inform the discussion?
Conceptual planning diagram, not a diagnostic image or a prediction of surgical results.

Rhinoplasty: the external shape
Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. Open and closed describe access through different incision patterns; these words alone do not tell you what structural work is planned. Ask your surgeon to explain the proposed changes, their limitations and why that access suits your anatomy.
NHS · Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
Septoplasty: the internal partition
The septum divides the two nasal passages. A deviation can contribute to obstruction, but an off-centre septum does not always cause symptoms. Assessment considers other contributors, including the turbinates and nasal valves. Septoplasty addresses the septum; a combined septorhinoplasty also addresses the external nose.

Revision: understand the earlier operation
If you have already had surgery, make that clear at the outset and bring any available operative records. A useful consultation should distinguish the concern you see today from the correction being proposed. Ask what can realistically change, what may remain and whether further surgery is appropriate at all.
ASPS · Rhinoplasty consultation; editorial consultation prompts
Arrive with a history, leave with clear questions.
Prepare your medical conditions, allergies, current medicines and supplements, smoking or alcohol history and previous procedures. Describe both appearance and breathing concerns. The consultation should include examination, available options and an explanation of risks. Do not change prescribed medicines yourself; ask the treating team for individual instructions.

Recovery is a sequence, not a reveal.
This visual is an orientation to follow-up, not a fixed timetable. The treating surgeon determines your care and review schedule.
- 01
Initial care
Splints or dressings may protect the nose. Obtain written instructions on care, medicines and the next review.
- 02
Early review
Ask who removes dressings or sutures, when you can resume activities and whom to contact with concerns.
- 03
Ongoing healing
Swelling changes over time; refinement can take up to a year. An early photograph is not the final assessment.
- 04
Continued follow-up
Confirm how reviews continue after you return home and how persistent concerns will be assessed.
ASPS · Rhinoplasty recovery
Discuss the trade-offs before deciding.
Possible risks include breathing difficulty, infection, altered sensation, scarring, septal perforation, dissatisfaction with appearance and further surgery. Anaesthesia has its own risks. Ask which are relevant to your health and proposed operation, how complications would be managed and what alternatives are available.

Reviews, fees & online identity
Read rhinoplasty accounts at procedure level
For Rauf Tahamiler reviews, separate cosmetic nasal surgery from sinus treatment or unrelated hospital care. Check that the author identifies the surgeon, operation date and follow-up period. Reddit and RealSelf can suggest questions but cannot establish a representative complication rate. A search containing “botched” does not prove misconduct. Compare what was expected, what was reported and what remains clinically unexplained.

Compare scope rather than the device label
No verified individual rhinoplasty price is supplied here. Ask whether Tahamiler’s written plan includes functional nasal work, anaesthesia, hospital care, follow-up and any graft-related costs. An “ultrasonic” label does not define what is included. For international travel, identify extra-night, additional-review and return-visit charges separately; a package headline should not be assumed to cover every later expense.

Check identity and photo context
An Instagram account may represent a hospital or intermediary rather than Tahamiler personally. Establish who publishes it and whether photographs identify the procedure and follow-up interval with comparable lighting. A WhatsApp enquiry line is not evidence of an independent patient group. No group is authenticated here; check administration, commercial interests and privacy before treating shared stories as a basis for decisions.
